Subscription Websites

DreamBox is one of my favorites. Even though it is a subscription-based site, they do have Teacher Tools that you can use for free. I would encourage you to investigate this sites full program, though. They use what they call “intelligent adaptive technology” to individualize each child’s learning path. For instance, in most online programs if a child gets the correct answer it moves them on to the next thing. However, there are different levels of how children might have gotten that right answer. One of my favorite examples is in their ten frame activity; the task asks the child to show “7” in the ten frame. Off to the side the child can click on 1,2,5, or 10 circles to go in the frame. A child might click “1” seven times, while another might click a 5 and 2, while another might click the 10 and then take away 3. Based upon how many “clicks” it takes the child to fill the frame, the computer can tell what strategy a child used to make 7 and then determines if the child is ready to move on or needs to go back and develop some other under standings. All of their tasks throughout are based on the progressions that children go through while learning important math concepts.

You do not have to subscribe for students to play any of the games. However, if you want to be able to track progress, you will need to pay for a subscription.
